Runner Strength Training

Heel walk

Foot and calf · Learning · in seconds held

Why it helps your running

Strengthens the tibialis anterior, the muscle at the front of your shin: protection against shin splints.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight

How to do it

  1. Lift your toes as high as you can and walk forward on your heels.
  2. Keep your toes pulled up toward your shins the whole way.
  3. Small steps, chest tall.

Common mistakes

  • Your toes drop halfway through.
  • You lean back to compensate.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
