Runner Strength Training

Kneeling hip flexor stretch

Mobility · Learning · in seconds held · per side

Why it helps your running

A looser psoas lets your hip open up behind you: your stride lengthens without your lower back paying for it.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight

How to do it

  1. One knee on the ground, the other foot forward, torso upright.
  2. Squeeze the glute on the kneeling side and push your hips slightly forward: you'll feel the stretch at the front of the hip.
  3. Keep your lower back neutral, hips slightly tucked, and breathe.

Common mistakes

  • Your lower back arches instead of the hip opening up.
  • You shift too far forward and the front knee goes well past the foot.
