Runner Strength Training

Lateral squat walk

Hips and glutes · Building · in reps · per side

Why it helps your running

Glutes under constant tension, step after step: a hip that never gives in, even deep into the kilometres.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight
Tempo
1 s down, 1 s up

How to do it

  1. In a half squat, feet parallel, take steps sideways without ever standing up.
  2. Keep your feet apart, make each step clear, push your knees outward.
  3. Take as many steps to the left as to the right.

Common mistakes

  • You stand up between each step.
  • Your feet come together and the tension drops.
  • Your knees cave in.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
