Runner Strength Training

Calf raises

Foot and calf · Learning · in reps

Why it helps your running

Calves that go the distance: every stride asks them to handle several times your body weight.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight
Tempo
2 s down, 1 s up, 1s pause

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and rise as high as you can onto the balls of your feet.
  2. Hold for a second at the top, then lower in 2 seconds, under control.
  3. Keep the weight on your big toe, don't let your ankles roll outwards.

Common mistakes

  • You bounce at the bottom instead of controlling the way down.
  • Your ankles roll outwards at the top.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
