Runner Strength Training

Single-leg calf raise

Foot and calf · Building · in reps · per side

Why it helps your running

Calf strength one leg at a time — exactly what matters when you run, since you're never on both feet at once.

You'll need
a wall
Tempo
2 s down, 1 s up, 1s pause

How to do it

  1. On one foot, fingertips on the wall for balance, rise onto your toes as high as you can.
  2. Hold for a second at the top, lower in 2 seconds.
  3. Keep your knee straight: it's the calf working, not the thigh.
  4. Same number of reps on each side, weaker side first.

Common mistakes

  • You push off the wall to help yourself up.
  • Your ankle rolls outward at the top.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
