Runner Strength Training

Side plank

Core · Learning · in seconds held · per side

Why it helps your running

Your obliques and glute medius hold the pelvis from the side: the core work that stops your hip from dropping on every footstrike.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight

How to do it

  1. On your side, propped on one forearm, elbow under the shoulder, feet stacked or staggered.
  2. Lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from feet to head.
  3. Push the ground away with your forearm, shoulder away from your ear.

Common mistakes

  • Your hips slowly drop.
  • Your torso rotates toward the floor or the ceiling.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
