Runner Strength Training

Side plank with leg raise

Core · Building · in reps · per side

Why it helps your running

Your bottom glute med holds, your top one works: both sides of your hips in a single move.

You'll need
nothing: just your bodyweight
Tempo
1 s down, 1 s up, 1s pause

How to do it

  1. In a side plank, lift your top leg straight up, hold for a second, lower it without letting it touch down.
  2. Keep the foot parallel to the ground and the leg in line with your body.
  3. Your hips stay still throughout the lift.

Common mistakes

  • The leg swings forward instead of lifting in line with your body.
  • Your hips drop with every lift.
