Runner Strength Training

Single-leg balance on a towel

Hips and glutes · Advanced · in seconds held · per side

Why it helps your running

A soft, unstable surface under your foot: your ankle works just like on a trail, safely at home.

You'll need
a towel

How to do it

  1. Fold a towel into several layers, put one foot on it and lift the other.
  2. Stay tall, knee slightly bent, eyes on a point far ahead.
  3. Once it feels easy, close your eyes.

Common mistakes

  • Locking the knee.
  • Looking down at your feet.
CautionStay near a wall or a piece of furniture to catch yourself. After a recent sprain, start with your eyes open on a hard floor.

Strength work, built into your plan.

Your coach picks your movements, their sets and tempo, and slots them into your week — with a guided session, minute by minute.
